Southwark Cathedral
The Cathedral School of St Saviour and St Mary Overie has a rich history of educating children in the parish, celebrating its 300th anniversary in 2004. The school maintains a close and active relationship with the Cathedral, where children regularly attend services to mark key Christian festivals. Clergy members frequently visit the school to lead assemblies, and each term, a Eucharist Service is held at the Cathedral for children who receive Holy Communion in their own churches. In their final weeks, Year 6 pupils participate in a special Leavers’ Service at the Cathedral, marking the end of their primary years with reflection and celebration.
The school values its close ties with the Cathedral, which enrich its spiritual and educational life. Canon Michael Rawson, Sub-Dean and Canon Pastor—known to the children as Father Michael—plays an active role as a school governor. Many pupils worship at the Cathedral, and several are members of its choirs. Throughout the year, children visit the Cathedral to explore its history and architecture, deepening their understanding of its significance. Additionally, every Thursday, a member of the Cathedral clergy leads collective worship at the school.
Rooted in faith, tradition, and community, the school cherishes its enduring bond with the Cathedral, ensuring that each child’s journey is enriched with a sense of belonging, purpose, and spiritual growth.
