A Wonderful Author Visit from Piers Torday

We were delighted to welcome the award-winning children’s author Piers Torday to Cathedral School for a truly memorable day celebrating reading, creativity and imagination.

The morning began with an inspirational talk for pupils in Years 3–6, where Piers introduced his latest book, Wolf Crown, and spoke about the ideas and experiences that inspire his writing. The children were completely engaged, asking thoughtful questions and showing great enthusiasm for storytelling. After the talk, pupils had the opportunity to have books signed, making the experience even more special.

Thanks to the generous support of the AMG Charitable Foundation, every child in Years 4–6 received a copy of one of Piers’ books, which Piers personally signed for them. This was a hugely exciting moment for the children and a wonderful way to encourage a love of reading.

Year 6 also took part in a creative writing workshop, where Piers challenged them to develop characters, atmosphere and original ideas. The quality of the pupils’ responses and their eagerness to share their writing were a real credit to them.

We were also delighted that, at the end of the day, Piers formally opened our new school library, which was met with great excitement and a huge cheer from Year 6. It was a fitting end to a day that placed books and reading firmly at the heart of school life.

We extend our sincere thanks to Anna Kaminska, Charlie’s mum in Year 6, and Mrs White, for coordinating this wonderful opportunity, and to Anna’s colleagues Lara Quaranta and Richard Murray-Bruce from AMG, whose generosity made the visit and the donation of new resources possible. Alongside the author visit, the school is receiving a fantastic range of new dictionaries, visualisers and science equipment that will benefit pupils for years to come.

Most of all, we thank Piers Torday for his time, energy and inspiration. It was a day our pupils (and staff!) will remember for a very long time.
