Excellence
Academic Excellence
Cathedral School is one of the top schools in the country for its academic standards. Recently, we were named as London’s top performing primary. Our holistic approach and our broad and balanced curriculum ensures all pupils here thrive. We challenge and support all children, including those of the highest ability, often providing learning well above the ‘expected’ level for their year group.
Our MOtto
The heart of everything we do
Our school motto ‘Life In All Its Fullness’, is at the heart of everything we do at Cathedral School.
Our strong pastoral care nurtures each child, supports parents and children, and helps to prepare each pupil to take his or her place in the world that never stands still.

Our History
Founded in 1704
The school celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2004, marking three centuries of educating children from the parish. Throughout its history, the school has occupied several sites in the immediate area, with its current location being in Redcross Way. The school maintains a close association with Southwark Cathedral; students regularly visit the Cathedral to celebrate Christian feasts, and clergy members lead assemblies at the school.
Why People Say About Us
It’s such a super community of children, parents, school and church. I couldn’t love it more! It’s an utterly wonderful school.
The Cathedral School is amazing. We were very impressed with the friendliness of the children and staff. The children were very engaged and eager to share their experiences of World Book Day with us.
‘After visiting 100s of schools over the last 27 years, I had one of my best school visits in Cathedral School with enthusiastic children and staff – who clearly had a thirst for poetry and, particularly, performing it.
Nothing else compares, to be honest.
Our time at Cathedral School feels like a gift and we will treasure it always.
As an artist I am grateful for the ways that you seamlessly weave the arts into the curriculum… I feel like my children are active participants in their education.
Performance
Performance and music are key components of the cultural life of the school
Music and performance play a vital role in the cultural life of our school, providing countless opportunities for children to shine. From enchanting EYFS nativity plays to the spectacular Year 6 musicals, every child has the chance to take the stage and develop their confidence.
Our Christmas and Easter performances are special highlights, held both in the Cathedral and on our school stage, complete with a professional sound system and two lighting rigs. In addition, children lead collective worship each term, and we warmly welcome parents to join us in these moments of reflection and celebration.

Love of reading
Passion for reading
Our school prides itself on fostering a life-long love of reading within all our children. Through their time here, our children are taken on a reading journey, where they are excited, challenged and captivated by books of all types and genres. By the time they leave us, they will have developed a true passion for reading, both for pleasure and information. Reading is celebrated across the school in a multitude of ways. Our new library is a magical haven, filled with a treasure trove of books and genres.
Fruits of friendship with god
These values shape every aspect of our community, guiding how we support and nurture each child.
Our school is deeply rooted in the nine fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
We believe that every child is unique, developing at their own pace and in their own way, and we strive to provide an environment where they can flourish. United by these timeless principles, our school encourages children to work, learn, and play in a way that reflects these values, fostering both individual growth and a strong, caring community.
Houses
Where Team Spirit Thrives
Our house system for Key Stage 2 fosters a sense of camaraderie and friendly competition among our pupils. Each house provides opportunities for teamwork, leadership, and personal growth, encouraging students to participate in a variety of activities, tournaments and challenges.
