Stars of the week: Sienna & Micah

This week was Assessment Week, giving the children the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills across a range of questions. They worked extremely hard, approached each challenge with a positive attitude, and demonstrated the progress they have made throughout the year.
Our Science learning this half term has begun with an exciting investigation into plant growth. The children have planted their own sunflower seeds and will be carrying out a longitudinal study over the coming weeks, carefully observing and recording changes as their plants develop.

As a class, we discussed the different variables that could affect plant growth, such as water, sunlight, and soil quality. The children considered how to control these factors to give their sunflowers the best chance of thriving, while developing their understanding of fair testing and scientific observation.

In English, the children have continued reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes and are currently writing a diary entry from Hogarth’s perspective after his first encounter with the mysterious creature. They have focused on using descriptive language to convey Hogarth’s thoughts, feelings, and reactions.

In Maths, the class have been revisiting key areas of the Year 4 curriculum, consolidating their understanding and applying their learning to a variety of problems and reasoning tasks.
