Stars of the Week: Menata & Nathan L
This week, we have been writing our own short suspense stories, based on the book Short! by Kevin Crossley-Holland. We worked hard to vary our sentence structures to add impact for the reader. We also thought about what other features we needed to include as well – speech, adverbials, varied punctuation, ambitious language – and tried to make sure we included this as well. We hope you enjoy some extracts:
- The lamp flickered faster. The shadow leaned in next to his ear and whispered, “You are mine now!”
- He heard a shriek in the distance like a sinister laugh. It was louder than the other bellows and calls which echoed through the murky forest.
- I gasped. My stomach flipped and my heart started to thump. Suddenly, the light flickered and two bloodshot eyes were staring back at me.
- Something snapped in Talia. She tried to run, but the doors locked instantly. Sweat engulfed her palms and her heart pounded vigorously. Then the lights flickered… once…twice…
- Crash! I heard glass shatter all over the floor. The light turned on and my reflection reached out and grabbed me.
