Stars of the week: Jonah & Lara

This week in class 4, the children have completed their own real life model of the digestive system. They used biscuit cereal, orange juice, tights, plastic wallets and paper cups to recreate the journey of food. We discussed the importance of each part of the digestive system and what it does for us. We used a plastic bag filled with the biscuit cereal (food) and added water (saliva) to help break it down. After, we crushed the mixture using our hands to represent chewing and then added orange juice (stomach acid) to break it down further. We moved the contents into the pair of tights (small intestine) and squeezed all the juices out (nutrients). Using the paper cups, the class added the mixture and removed all the contents (large intestine) and rectum.

In English, we have been drafting our own Viking Saga. Creating a hero, building up suspense and facing a fierce monster.
