π Stars of the Week: Oliver and Zofia
Oliver and Zofia showed creativity and confidence while experimenting with different attachment techniques, all in preparation for our upcoming project on making lunch boxes for Paddington.
This Week in Class 1:
Our class has had a brilliant week in DT as we explored a range of attachment techniques in preparation for making our own Paddington-themed lunch boxes next week. The children have been fully engaged as they experimented with cardboard, tape, and string, discovering how different methods can help them join materials securely and creatively.
Using tabs, the children learned how small folded sections can hold pieces together neatly. With flanges, they explored how adding extra surface area can make structures stronger and more stable. The tie-up method was a big hit, as many enjoyed threading and knotting string to fasten parts together. We also introduced the L-brace, which the class quickly recognised as a clever way to support corners and help models stand firmly.
It was wonderful to see everyone collaborating, problem-solving, and testing their ideas. These skills will be incredibly useful when we begin designing and constructing our own lunch boxes for Paddington next week. We canβt wait to see what the children create!
DT
For DT, the children will be making lunch boxes for Paddington. Please can you send in a labelled shoe box and washed out plastic containers. For example, yoghurt pots, grapes tray etc. Thank you for your continued support in this. We will be making our lunchboxes in the last week of term.Β
Have a lovely weekend.
